A Double Dose of Stitch Fix | Crunchy, Crafty, and Highly Caffeinated

A Double Dose of Stitch Fix

Where did the summer go?

My kiddos are starting school on MONDAY! Don’t get me wrong, I am THRILLED to watch my child care payments cut in half, but still it is basically fall. Someone bring me a Pumpkin Spice Latte! Or a Pumpking beer.

Anyway…with that said, I have been a bit behind on my Stitch Fix reviews. My Fourth Fix arrived at the end of what can only be described as the WORST month of the year.

In the month of June I went in for a routine checkup and was prescribed my baseline mammogram. No big deal. I went and got my boobs squished. But then there was the phone call 24 hours later telling me to come in and get more testing. Booooo!

Over the next few weeks I was poked, prodded, and cut open a tiny bit. Thankfully, my results came back in my favor! Not cancer πŸ™‚ There was lots of happiness and dancing and celebratory ice cream!

Then, just as I was trying to rebound for all of the work I had missed (such a great way to use my vacation time, huh?), I found out that my grandfather had passed away. Booooo again! So I packed up the family, rented a car, and made the 12ish hour car ride north. This trip was a mixed bag of emotions. On one hand we were all very upset over losing the patriarch of our family, but we also got to see the rest of our family. My kids got to meet their little cousin who lives 12 hours away. We spent 2 hours in my aunts pool with my cousins and their kids. We got to tease my dad for his excessive pie consumption πŸ˜‰ And just when we thought that we couldn’t handle any more…we got into an accident IN OUR RENTAL while leaving the cemetery!

Just a little bit of advice…always buy the extra insurance when renting a car. We had minimal damage to our car and were thankfully able to head home that evening as planned.

ANYWAY The point of this post is happy! When we arrived home sitting on my stoop was my pretty little Stitch Fix delivery! I needed that (and a stiff drink!).

Now due to the nature of the timing when this box was delivered my pictures do not meet my usual quality standardsΒ but just look at all of those colors and patterns! They gave me a little bit of sunshine!

Sunshine PileItem #1 – Pomelo Colibri Bird Print Tab-Sleeved Blouse – $48

Pomelo Tab-Sleeve

This style does NOT look good on me! It is very similar (to the point that I think it is the same shirt with a different pattern) as the Heart Tab Sleeve from my Second Fix. It fit me like an art smock, and I’m sorry past 3rd grade that look doesn’t really work. The pattern was super cute!

Pomelo Tab-Sleeve 2

Item #2 – Liverpool Paola Skinny Jean – $78

After the horrible pant adventure from my last fix I had zero hope for these. I hate to say that. I just never thought of myself as a skinny jean person because I am not skinny! At all. And I’m a mom. It’s just weird.

WRONG! These jeans are amazing! I want to wear them every day. They are stretchy and soft and suck me in at the right spots without looking frumpy. Swoon! And it doesn’t hurt that there is a Beatles quote on the inner pocket. Mind you the price almost gave me a heart attack, but I had not bought jeans in the better part of a year so I justified it.

Liverpool Jeans Liverpool Jenas 2Item #3 – Sweet Rain Nik Abstract Print Dress – $68

Sweet Rain Dress

This dress is WILD! Not something I am usually into, but part of the point of getting a Stitch Fix is for me to try new things. I tried this and was not a fan. The dress fit a bit boxy and just was not terribly flattering…and the slightly off-white nature looked really bad against my not tanned skin.

Sweet Rain Abstract Print Dress 2

Item #4 – Pomelo Jillian Crochet Detail Tank – $48

Okay…I am conflicted with this top. It is so pretty and soft and completely my style (tank tops and cardigans for DAYS) and completely too expensive.

Pomelo Tank

I know that I have bought some tops from Stitch Fix that were this price, but this one seemed a bit too casual for me to justify the price, even though I loved it. I may have also kept it if I didn’t know my budget was super tight this round because of our trip up north. I might have to try and find this online now…non buyers remorse! I mean, just look at that crochet detailing on the back! Wahhh!

Pomelo Tank 2Item #5 – 41Hawthorn Dita Colorblock Sleeveless Ponte Dress – $78

This dress was HEAVY! The fabric weighed me down from the second I put it on (and struggled to zipper) this dress.

41Hawthorne Ponte Dress.jpg

I really liked the color blocking style. I think it is fun and young and I am trying to be fun and young, but it just needed to be a different fabric.

$78 – Liverpool jeans
– 20 – Styling Fee
Β  – 5 – credit
$53 – not too shabby!

On to my latest and greatest Fix!! And also a bit better of pictures!

Item #1 – 41Hawthorne Augusto Dot Print Sleeveless Blouse – $48

41Hawthorne 1LOVE! This navy shell/tank was super cute and paired really nice with my Liverpool jeans (hey!) and some pearls. I have also really taken to belting tops to give them some more definition. Please don’t judge my bad modeling shots!Β

41Hawthorne 2 41Hawthorn 3Item #2 – Skies are Blue Sutton Mixed Chevron Print Dress – $68

Skies are Blue Dress 1

So they claim that this is “mixed chevron”…I think it looks more tribal. Ick! It was also loose at the top and tightish in the middle and that is not a great combo. This was an easy decision…after some sassy picture taking!

Skies are Blue Dress 2 Skies are Blue Dress 3Item #3 – Skies are Blue Clyde Center Pleat Sleeveless Blouse – $48

Okay…there were no really good pictures of this top, but I swear it looked good on in “reality.” I wore it to work and one of the girls declared that she wanted it and started Googling to find it lol.

Skies are Blue 2 Skies are Blue 3Items # 4 & 5 – Mystree Hannah Striped Lace Detail Fit and Flare Dress – $68 and Pixley Kate Stone and Pave Disc Layering Necklace – $34

Mystree 1

With this Fix I requested something different…an accessory. I was really hoping for a bag or a scarf, but Jasmine (this month’s stylist) gave me a necklace. I loved it. I wanted to keep it. Summer has made me poor because of 3 kids in full time child care. Sadly, it had to go back.

On the other hand, this dress! From the second I touched it I declared that it now lived with us πŸ™‚ It is soft and flow-y and makes me feel cute. Fit and Flare is absolutely my go to dress style and I want to buy all of the things! I am sparing you from the “Anne Marie twirls in a new dress” picture…but trust me there are some πŸ™‚

So my grand total for Stitch Fix #5 –

$68 – Mystree Dress
+ 48 – Skies are Blue Blouse
– 20 Stylist Fee
Β  – 5 – credit

Now I know that this seems expensive for 2 pieces, but keep in mind that a) I have not bought myself any clothes other than Stitch Fix in months and b) I have already worn both of these to work. I really find this service to be worth it. I love that I am not dragging my 3 midgets to the store OR taking a few hours away from my family on our already overly busy weekends. I am overly excited for my next Fix. It is coming the week before our anniversary and my birthday and I asked for something with a little sparkle for the occasion. I cannot wait to see what they have in store for me.

What is your favorite piece from this post? Are there any that you think I was wrong to send back?

I absolutely LOVE Stitch Fix. It’s perfect for getting you to try things that you wouldn’t normally pick up in stores. I have quite a few things from them that I would have totally scoffed at in the store and they are my FAVORITE. But being a stay at home Mom, I just can’t justify the prices for wearing around the house… I need a life. ;P

Sorry about the craptastic month of June btw, but like you said, we are just a few weeks shy of PUMPKIN EVERYTHING! aahhhh!

    • mrsdmeeks

I feel you on the SAHM not being able to justify it! I wasn’t able to talk hubby into letting me try it until I got my “real” job πŸ˜‰ and now he is very supportive!

    • mrsdmeeks

I am currently wearing them and they are FANTASTIC! I truly think that they are magical LOL

    • mrsdmeeks

Consider giving it a shot! They are really good about tailoring to what you like and take your feedback into account.

    • mrsdmeeks

Absolutely!! It has really helped me branch out past my college clothes that as a 30-something I should no longer be wearing!

  2. Stephanie Cox

As fun as this seems, I can’t imagine them getting clothes that fit me. I’m short and umm… round so I can’t imagine anything they would pick would fit right!

    • mrsdmeeks

I feel ya on short and round!! Some things are hit or miss, but there is always something that works πŸ™‚

  3. Shaunacey

    yay no cancer!!!

Stitch Fix doesn’t deliver to Canada and that makes me sad πŸ™

    • mrsdmeeks

      YES! Yay no cancer!

Oh no!! Email them and request it! If they get enough requests maybe they will start!

  4. GiselleR

I’ve been wavering on whether or not to do stitch fix for a while now. The clothes always look lovely, but some of the pieces are so expensive! I’m afraid I’ll love & keep everything and then end up in the poorhouse lol

    • mrsdmeeks

That has been my struggle!! One of the cool things is that if you keep everything you get a 25% discount which usually end up being cheaper than sending only 1 or 2 things back!

You are also getting better quality and clothes that you can’t find everywhere (41Hawthorne is their own brand!) For the $20 styling fee (which applies towards your purchase!) it could be worth a try πŸ™‚

    • mrsdmeeks

Thanks! My husband and I were both so happy when June was OVER! And now school starts tomorrow…where did July go!?

  5. Trish (@KhakiPantsBlog)

Trying to be young and fun! haha! Sometimes its ok to be old and boring πŸ™‚

Loved both of your fixes! I have put mine on hold for now because of the cost. I might pick it up later.

    • mrsdmeeks

You will! I figure that since this is the only clothes shopping I do most months it is worth it…even if I only find one thing!
