I am looking to start a new feature (yes, I know I struggle enough with the ones I have) where I want to spotlight some inspiring and motivating friends and bloggers.
First up in the spotlight is Kristen Cincotta! This woman is truly the Energizer Bunny! Since meeting her almost 3 years ago she has motivated me, pushed me, and challenged me…even if she didn’t know it. She is a PhD of Neuroscience (what?!), marathon runner (okay technically she has run 2 half marathons, but compared to me who cannot run a mile they seem like marathons!), activist, soon-to-be mommy, and quality friend. I don’t get to see her very often (and that is 110% my fault) but when I do I never stop smiling.
Now let’s start with the first item on that impressive list of descriptors, shall we? SHE’S A FREAKING DOCTOR! When I met Kristen she was knee deep in Alzheimer’s research. Now she is working as a research fellow studying prescription drug abuse at the CDC. <– My little theatre degree brain cannot wrap it’s head around this. SUCH important work. Last week she was live tweeting from the #RXSummit HERE and shared some pretty impressive information and photos.
Now next up on her extraordinary resume is marathon runner(again to ME she is a marathon runner, but she describes herself as a 2-time half marathon runner, at best). Now Kristen’s Race Schedule on her blog isn’t exactly up to date, BUT it is impressive. In 2013 she completed 26 5k’s or longer…SERIOUSLY?!!? I get winded walking around my office or chasing my kids around and this woman runs ALL over Atlanta! She is always posting her times and workouts on Twitter (have you caught on that we are Twitter junkies yet?) I am jealous of every bit of energy, and DREAM of running a Disney Marathon…but that is a story for another time!
Now on to activist. Something that I find so cool that Kristen does is that she dedicates many of her runs to different associations and organizations. We “met” working with the Susan G Komen Foundation 3-Day , but since then she has raised money for the American Cancer Society, Breast Cancer Research Foundation, and the Upstate Medical University Regional Oncology Center (ROC) in Syracuse, New York. You may have noticed a common theme here. Cancer is a disease that is, unfortunately, near and dear to both of our hearts and was one of our initial bonding points. Other ways that Kristen has been working to help these organizations is to work with Komen Atlanta as a Community Grant Reviewer and serving on the Race for the Cure Committee along with our friend Julie (you’ll hear about her another week). This year they even pulled me in to join them!
The final point that makes Kristen so damn inspirational is SHE’S PREGGO and still does all of this!!!!! Kristen and her awesome hubby Mike (you can see him in the above pic) are expecting Baby Cincotta this summer. I have no clue how she is doing it! When I was pregnant with each of my kids all I wanted to do was lay on the couch watching Law and Order SVU marathons drinking Steak ‘n Shake milkshakes and here she is running around literally trying to change the world.
So that is a little bit about the ever inspirational Kristen!! I was really looking forward to spending a lot of time with her this coming Mother’s Day weekend volunteering for the Race for the Cure, but she has a family the day before out of state. Will this Energizer Bunny EVER stop!!
Hopefully we will be able to get together soon…we are almost 6 months overdue for our annual Glitter Party with a few friends, Chinese takeout, and silly movies.
Do you have a friend or blogger that you find inspirational? Please share a little something about them in the comments and maybe they will be the subject of an upcoming post!
Final Note: Everything in this post is my opinion (minus the few fact check’s I let Kristen do). All in good fun, and all to spotlight an amazing woman.
