Fall 2016 TV Preview

Fall 2016 TV Preview

I’m a TV addict. When I was younger I knew what day it was by what show was on that night…and I made plans accordingly (like, I wasn’t going to miss Dawson’s Creek for ANYTHING). Now with DVR and Netflix, life is a little bit more flexible…except that the internet is full of spoilers and they are hard to avoid.

Here is my Fall 2016 TV Preview…set your DVR accordingly.

Monday

Gotham (FOX) – If you’ve been reading this blog for any length of time then you know my love of Gotham, but in case you don’t, here’s the deal. I have NEVER considered myself a comic geek in any way, shape, or form. I glaze over when my Superman tattoo’d husband started talking about what he is reading, but when he asked me to do a podcast for Gotham he sold it as a police procedural (like Law & Order: SVU) set in Gotham City pre-Batman I went with it. I am not HOOKED and will tell anyone who will listen to watch it. It can be violent, but it isn’t overly gorey (8pm on Monday’s aren’t prime gore time) and the story is amazing. With Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith) and the other monsters that broke out from Indian Hill roaming Gotham it’s going to be a Mad City.

Tuesday

This is Us (NBC) – I heard about This is Us a few months ago and was instantly hooked for 2 reasons – Mandy Moore and Milo Ventimiglia. After watching (and crying through) the show trailer, the excitement for this new dramedy only grew. The show promises to fill the hole that was left in our hearts with the departure of Parenthood while still delivery a twist. This is Us premieres September 20th at 10pm against some highly established shows, but I have faith that it will win over audiences.

Wednesday

Designated Survivor (ABC) – I have a soft spot when it comes to political dramas (The West Wing and Scandal for example) and Designated Survivor has all of the drama that you could possibly want. The premise is that the person of succession that sits our the State of the Union becomes president when there is a terrorist attack on the Capital and everything that brings with it. Should he step down? Should he step up? Who do you trust? Designated Survivor looks to he high paced and high intensity and a great way to get through the middle of the week with a Wednesday at 10pm time slot.

Thursday

Thursday is a night of comfort shows. With Grey’s Anatomy (ABC), Supernatural (CW), and The Big Bang Theory (CBS) keeping you safe like a warm blanket you know what to expect. These are the shows that everyone will be talking about tomorrow…and for many days to come. Rest easy that you have your old standbys to provide you comedy and drama as you head into the weekend.

Friday

Are you really watching TV on Friday night?! Go on a date! Hit a local play! Catch up on your DVR  from the rest of the week 🙂 What I’m saying is…go be social! I gave you a little something to get you through the week, but now it is time to let your hair down.

Netflix

Gilmore girls (November 25) – This isn’t really a surprise, right?

I’ve got all the same shows on my DVR too. I’m also hoping that Prison Break goes live this fall/winter too. 😉

I live in the U.K so only some shows come on in the Fall (sometimes they are staggered by a week or two, sometimes more), so I don’t quite get that old Fall T.V. excitement I used to in America. And don’t get me started on spoilers, I try to stay off the internet if there are big ones but it’s pretty futile over here! But it is fun to have new shows coming on, eventually! Life in Pieces looks like it will be a great veg out comfort watch, like Brothers & Sisters maybe, I definitely have a gap for one of those in my schedule! We are Supernatural lifers in my house too, we are just about to finish the latest season though 🙂 Like you I watch a lot of streaming nowadays (more Amazon) but I am definitely getting Netflix, finally, for the Gilmore Girls, can not wait! 🙂 xo

The spoilers are insane between the US and UK! I will never understand why shows that air in both, air at different times!

I tend to watch too much tv, but I’ve been trying to trim my regular shows.

I am looking forward to the new Fall season lineup. The one new show that tickles my fancy the most has to be This Is Us.

    • Anne Marie D

This is Us makes me all sorts of happy. I am just hoping it lives up to my excitement!!

  4. Selena Fettig

Most underrated show on television: The Middle. I’m hooked.

    • Anne Marie D

I’ve never seem that one, but I’ve heard good things. I’m going to have to check it out.

  5. Janine Huldie

Still going to be watching The Big Bang Theory here, as well. I was invited to a press event in NYC for This Is Us (btw) and sadly conflicted with my schedule. But will totally be checking that out, as well here. Thanks for sharing a few others and will have to add what I can to my list now #happynowlinkup

  6. like Sara…but with a d

You forgot to tell everyone to binge watch Stranger Things on Netflix! Go do it now!!!!!! This show is too amazing to pass up.

    • Anne Marie D

OMG yes! Gotta love Stranger Things!!

  7. Holly

Good roundup. We like most of your suggestions but we mainly use our TV for sports, The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones. Can’t wait for my two favorites to return! #happynowlinkup

    • Anne Marie D

Hahaha! That is awesome. I’ve never gotten into Walking Dead or GoT, but I can totally get behind some Steelers 🙂

  8. debsrandomwritings

Hi Anne Marie, I have no idea what our viewing plans are yet. I like the sound of Gotham though. I do love the Gilmore Girls and The Big Bang Theory too. You’ve given me some program to check out though!

Gotham is FANTASTIC! They always keep me guessing and I love that about a show!

I’m so bad with keeping up with TV because I just can’t find the time. Even if I DVR, I’ll get ridiculously behind. haha However, I really do want to find time to watch the new show Bull. I think it sounds really good. I’m also hoping to keep up with some of the new comedies like Speechless and Kevin Can Wait. I’m also excited for Gilmore Girls!

I haven’t heard of most of those! I’ll add them to my “check this out” list 🙂 When I get behind on a show I like to marathon it while folding the inevitable pile of laundry that has grown in the corner of my room hehe

  10. Experienced Bad Mom (@ExperBadMom)

Designated survivor looks good, but I can’t watch action stuff right before bed. I’ll have to catch it the next day or else I’ll be awake all night! #happynow

    • Anne Marie D

I can totally see that! The first episode was great and I can’t wait to see where they go from there.

  11. playdatesparties

I wanted to watch Gotham last year, but the Husband and I hardly seem to catch up on Big Bang Theory each week. We’re also hoping that Turn gets another season. We’ve been hooked on that show since the beginning.

    • Anne Marie D

Gotham last season was pretty awesome! It’s now on Netflix which makes it a lot easier to catch up on. I haven’t heard of Turn…what station was that on?

  12. Bonnie

I always look forward to Criminal Minds but I will have to check out some of these new ideas. I’m visiting today from The Happy Now blog hop and now following you on your social media channels.

    • Anne Marie D

Welcome, Bonnie! I never quite got into Criminal Minds, but I might have to give that a go!
