In case you didn’t know, my family is filled with geeks. At any given moment at least one of us is doing something that can ear them that title whether it be perusing the internets for the latest news, leveling up a video game, or catching more Pokemon (we finally got Pikachu!).
This weekend the world’s geekdom swarmed to San Diego, California for San Diego ComicCon and while I’m not quite awesome enough to get there (tickets sell out SO QUICK!) I want to share with you a recap of some of the trailers that caught my interest.
Glimpses of Wonder Woman in Batman V Superman peaked my interest. Her theme music makes me get pumped. Her bad-assery of saving the boys won me over. I have been looking forward to this movie from the minute I left the theatre and this trailer has only amplified that!
Most of my Wonder Woman knowledge is pretty basic and that is what makes this movie so intriguing, it is an origin story that we haven’t gotten a million times like her DC counterparts Superman and Batman. We all know backwards and forwards these tales, but now we get to know Diana Prince’s story.
Another movie that Batman V Superman planted the seed of obsession for was Justice League. This teaser trailer was a surprise for this year’s ComicCon since it doesn’t come out until November 2017. this was a good surprise!
I am a firm believer in Batffleck and he continues pushing the Batman agenda in this movie. We get glimpses into the formation of the Justice League. You get Flash, Aquaman, and Cyborg from the beginning, and they aren’t all going to come easily.
Oh and if you are interested in hearing my thoughts on Batman V Superman go HERE. I have lots of opinions!
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
I had not even realized that there was going to be a trailer for this until I stumbled on it. YAY! This movie is the perfect treatment for the Potterhead who has been missing the wizarding world. With J.K. Rowling and David Yates at the helm this movie is in highly capable hands and between that and the gorgeous beast in this movie I cannot wait for it’s November release. You might want to take one of these with you to the theatre.
Triva: Ezra Miller who plays Credence in Fantastic Beasts also plays Flash in Justice League!
I haven’t seen a Marvel movie since Iron Man hit the screen in 2008, but they might be winning me over with Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange. I have been a Sherlock fan since the beginning and have been hesitant about watching Benedict in any other role because he has such a definite look, but I think this trailer has my interest. It doesn’t hurt that Rachel McAdams is in it too.
LEGO Batman Movie
Okay, so I wasn’t going to even watch this trailer. I had zero desire. But then I did…and I laughed out loud. There is just something about the LEGO Batman character and style that I enjoy in a silly way and I needed that after all of these serious trailers. I probably won’t see this one in the theatres, but I’ll see it.
I have a love/hate relationship with British TV. The content is SO GOOD, but the seasons are so short…and in the case of Sherlock so far in between. There are so many things about this trailer that excite me, mostly when Mrs. Hudson kicks him out (opps…spoiler!). So much has happened in Apt 221B Baker Street that I never thought she would do it. Is it 2017 yet?
While this “trailer” is 97% clips from past episodes (an AWFUL trend this year) I think that there is a lot of meaning behind it. We get each of our main villains with a focus on one that we haven’t seen in a while. Since we don’t get a whole lot to go off of we have to feel our excitement from the video as a whole vs specific content and I feel it.
Keep an eye here for a more in depth analysis.
Once Upon A Time
My feelings for this show have depleted so severely over the last year that I almost didn’t include them, but I decided to go with it. At ComicCon OUAT shared two videos, one a pure clip show for the character Regina/Evil Queen and another revealing an Aladdin storyline with a new Jafar (BOOO). The fans have been clamoring for this story for years, but it’s placement is odd. After we all made the trip to Wonderland in 2013 for our introduction of Jafar would have been appropriate, now it feels like an afterthought. I will continue watching, but am very glad that we chose to send Greetings from Storybrooke out to pasture.
iZombie and The 100
In continuing with the trend of clip shows vs trailers for TV shows, both iZombie and The 100 released their own at SDCC. I started to get upset about it until I remembered that neither of these shows come back until midseason, aka January 2017 at the earliest. Neither of these shows get as much love as a lot of other shows on The CW and I think that is because their characters aren’t as recognizable or familiar. Personally I think they should be putting more behind them to build them up because they are a breath of fresh air. It’s not stories that have been told over and over and there are constant twists. I advise you catch up on Netflix as best you can.
From the looks of this list I am going to need to find a couple of good babysitters so that my husband and I can check out the upcoming movies…and so I can watch my tv shows in peace! HA!
What movies or tv shows are you looking forward to in the near future? Did I miss any trailers that you think I should check out? Be sure and let me know below in the comments.
