15 Songs for the 90's Teenager at Heart | Crunchy, Crafty, and Highly Caffeinated

15 Songs for the 90’s Teenager at Heart

Sometimes you just need a pick me up during your day and I have found that 90’s music is that for me. Here are 15 songs from the 90’s that remind me of the good part of high school (because who wants to remember all of the tests, papers, and broken hearts?)!

Songs for the 90's Teenage at Heart

No Doubt – Just A Girl – 1994

I worshiped at the alter of Gwen Stefani when I was younger. I wore the bindi, memorized the albums, and was 7 rows back at the concert. She is strong and powerful and she made being a girl awesome.

Bone Thug-in-Harmony – Crossroads – 1996

I remember vividly when this song came out. I was in middle school and they performed at the MTV VMAs. The next day our entire class was talking about it. Imagine, MTV playing music videos…how novel.

N’sync – I Want You Back – 1998

It wouldn’t be the 90’s without some boy band action. Were you on Team N’Sync or Team BSB?

BackStreet Boys – Quit Playing Games with My Heart – 1997

I am a forever member of Team BSB and this is the song that started it all. Brian was just…gorgeous!

LFO – Summer Girls – 1999

The guys of LFO tried their hardest to be apart of the boy band movement, but they could never gain the traction of the big guns. They did, however, knock out some pretty catchy tunes.

Mariah Carey – Honey – 1997

I have been a long time fan of Mariah Carey and when she reinvented herself in the late 90’s I was ALL OVER IT!

Eminem – My Name Is – 1999

The 90’s brought us Marshall Mathers. Mr. Eminem himself. I remember being shocked and amazed by everything he got away with. He was rude, crude, and violent and yet he was just as bright and shiny as everything else coming out then.

Len – Steal My Sunshine – 1999

Good old TRL (Total Request Live if you don’t know) was a breading ground for the bright, shiny, and popy music in the 90’s and this is one of my favorites to come from that time. This song just makes me so very happy…and want to dance on the beach!

The Notorious B.I.G. – Hypnotize – 1997

I mean, how can you not like this song? Papa and Puff!

Britney Spears – …Baby One More Time – 1999

All hail Queen Britney! Making school uniforms sexy since 1999. Do you think anyone knew what was coming when this video came out?

Korn – Freak on a Leash – 1998

Sometimes you just need to rock out. (Wow that makes me sound old)

Limp Bizkit – Faith – 1997

For too long I had no clue that this was a cover of an 80’s song, but that almost makes it better. They took something so chill and made it mosh-able. Also Fred Durst…yes please.

Blink-182 – What’s My Age Again? – 1999

Naked Skater Dudes!!!

Destiny’s Child – Bills Bills Bills – 1999

Before she was the Queen Bey, Beyonce was the lead of Destiny’s Child. Also, I think we can (and should) all ignore the awful, strappy outfits in this video.

TLC – Waterfalls – 1995

So many powerful messages have come out of TLC’s music over the years and Waterfalls is no exception.

“Just a Girl” was constantly on the radio! I would add the Smashing Pumpkins “Bullet with Butterfly Wings” and REM’s “Shiny Happy People” to my list of 90’s songs.

  2. Bri

When I was in high school, we practiced driving in Driver’s Ed on the adjacent parking lot near the school. Whoever was going to drive that session got to play their mix tapes in the car, and mine I remember had some of my favorite 90’s songs.. “Torn” “Don’t Speak” “Stay” “Sex and Candy” “Barbie Girl” – I used to listen to music by threading my ear buds through my hoodie and then hiding the cords behind my long hair so I rocked out in my Home Ec class (because who cares about Home Ec? It was just slides of VD and book work) every day.

That is awesome! It was really REALLY hard to narrow down my list. I probably could have made a list of 50 different songs (a challenge for another day perhaps!).

  3. Caryn

So I loved Groove is in the Heart. That song reminds me of high school circa 1991. xoxo

  4. Bronwyn Marcus

Thank you! Sometimes you just have to take a step back and remember your past 🙂

  6. Jen

This is awesome! I am bopping along and quite enjoying myself with your list. Can you believe these are now considered oldies? How did I get old so fast, just when I thought I was cool 🙂

    • Anne Marie D

I CANNOT believe that some of these are oldies because then that mean I’m old and I refuse to believe it (even if I’m always tried and my body aches lol).

  7. Mrs. AOK

YES, YES, AND MORE YES!!!! I felt the same way about Gwen, I also LOVED Blink 182. I still follow Travis Barker on Twitter. 🙂
    Great picks here. 😀
