My Favorite Smoothie

The other day I was trolling Facebook when my friend asked for some sort of suggestion for a sweet snack that wasn’t full of garbage. First I shared with her my Frozen Banana Bites but then someone in the thread mentioned smoothies. I just HAD to give those girls my rundown for my favorite smoothie. I have this problem, when I like something, I like to talk about it. So please enjoy my recipe for my favorite smoothie.

Next up was a heaping dollop of smooth peanut butter. I have also been known to use crunchy, almond butter, sunbutter…whatever I have, Jiff Natural is my favorite.

I follow that up with chunks of frozen banana that I keep in the freezer for smoothie making. We used to keep whole bananas, but have discovered that if you break the banana into chunks before freezing it works a lot better. It will also be easier to adjust quantities needed.

On top of the bananas I sprinkled one scoop of chocolate flavored protein powder. I don’t use too much in my smoothies since it tends to make them thicker. We also do not have a particular brand of powder that we regularly use, just whatever is on special when we grocery shop.

Next I add about half a serving of yogurt sprinkled with ground flax seeds. For today’s smoothing I used Dreaming Cow blueberry cardamom local yogurt that I found at Target and Bob’s Red Mill flax.

The last ingredient added to the blended is about a cup of liquid. Today I used Chocolate Almond Milk so that it tasted even more delicious.

I love the way that all of the smoothie components look in the blender before mixing! I think that it is so cool to see the different colors and how they all blend together.

After! This smoothie comes out a really deep and delicious magenta. I never really thought about it, but the color of my smoothies tends to partially determine if I like them. Smoothies that lean towards brighter colors are tastier than ones that turn brown!

So perfect! These smoothies are usually a little too think for your regular straw, but you could try a wider, smoothie straw. I prefer to just drink from the glass with the assist of a spoon when needed.

    I love smoothies. I went through a phase last year where I had the same one for breakfast every day: 1 frozen banana, 1 cup plain Greek Yogurt, some honey, 2 TB smooth peanut butter, and some milk. Mmm…

      YUM!!! I love trying new things, but every time I add greens I HATE my smoothie. I guess the junk food kid in me just cant get behind it!

    I LOVE smoothies! My favorite ingredients are berries and bananas. Never tried peanut butter though. It makes sense since it’s smooth and creamy.

    Ok don’t freak but I do this every morning now and love it, but mine is GREEN!!!! I do a cup of kale, cup of spinach, four bits of pineapple, cup of coconut water, 1/4 teaspoon of ginger fresh and a 1/4 of a lemon cut up and added. If I have a leftover sweet potato I will put in a bit of that too…. It is soon good, I love the ginger!!!!! Kicks your butt in the morning 🙂

      AHHHH you have me until coconut water and ginger!! I can drink coconut milk all day, but not coconut water and I have always hated ginger! Not sure why, but i do!!

      You should have seen the DISASTER I tried to make myself for dinner tonight…ugh!!! down the drain he went 🙂

    Wow! That looks delicious! We’ve got quite a few allergies in our house so unfortunately we’ll have to cut out the peanut butter but it I bet it will still be amazing 🙂
