One of the best things about holidays is all of the goodies and Valentine’s Day is among the best for them! This year I made a few different recipes for different people to enjoy, and while I may not have taken pictures of each step, I thought I would at least share with you the final products and the links to the recipes I tried!

Heart Shaped Brownies

First, I used the Ultimate Deep Dish Brownie recipe from Recipe for Perfection. I love a good brownie and I had been wanting to try one of her recipes for a while.

Verdict: YUM! I cannot wait to make these brownies again! I actually topped them with a coconut milk glaze and red chocolate chips. It didn’t come out as thick as I had hoped, but it was still delicious!

Paleo Meringues

Next, I tried making Paleo friendly meringues basing my recipe off of Against All Grain. These were the perfect sweet treat for my husband who is on a very strict Mediterranean diet.

Verdict:  These were REALLY good and the perfect treat, but they felt a little like drinking honey. I’m not HUGE on the taste of honey. Since I made these a few days before Valentine’s Day I decided to wrap these up and give them to the ladies who run my son’s after school program.

Red Velvet Pancakes

Lastly was Red Velvet Pancakes from Cooking Classy for breakfast on Valentine’s Day morning!  I always try to do something fun for the kids on holidays and I thought these would be perfect! The original plan was to use my heart cookie cutter for some fun shapes, but I HAD to try out my Batman cookie cutter too!

Verdict: These pancakes were soooooo tasty that they ended up being dinner this past Friday too, but since I was pretty much out of red food coloring I tried blue…FAIL. We won’t talk about how ugly they were. I added sprinkles to make them cute.

My Surprise

My husband and I were lucky enough to have an overnight babysitter on Valentine’s Day. This hasn’t happened since the night before I had London, so 3.5 years…too long. So after a delicious evening of TexMex, margaritas, Starbucks, and books we crashed early. Seriously…I had every intention of sleeping as much as humanly possible.

I woke up before 7am. *grumble grumble*

After taking our time getting ready and going grocery shopping together (which was awesome) we picked up the kids and they greeted me with ROSES!

I LOVED it! I love getting flowers! I think they just cheer me up, no matter my mood. Hubby and I had actually talked about picking up some flowers at the grocery store, but they hadn’t been marked down yet LOL

I searched the house for a bud vase, but none were to be found. I improvised with an empty wine bottle from my recent Club W delivery! It was a delicious wine and a perfect bud vase. FYI If you sign up for Club W through my referral link you will get you $26 in credits (2 bottles) to have wine delivered to your house with recipes to accompany the wine. Just sayin’.

Your Valentine’s Day

I heard a lot of people talk about taking their kids out for Valentine’s Dinner, or staying in and having a movie night. What did you do? Did you spend the night with your significant other, or the whole family? Maybe you have a best friend who was your Valentine!

An overnight babysitter! Holy moly mackerel! Lucky you. 🙂

Love how you decorated my Ultimate Deep Dish Brownies! And all the other treats look wonderful, too.

Our Valentine’s Day date got postponed, as everyone came down with one illness or another simultaneously, but we did have some tasty homemade Italian food instead.

The brownies were phenomenal! I will absolutely be making those again.

I HATE when everyone gets sick at the same time. One year all 5 of us got a stomach bug the weekend of my daughter’s birthday when we had company! Terrible!

      Have a GREAT week!

Red velvet pancake! I am so attempting that but will be using red dragon fruit for he colour and if I run out of red colouring, I promise I won’t try blue! Ha.

I’ve never tried dragon fruit!! I once used roasted beets to color my pancakes because they came in my Farmers’ Market Basket and I have NO CLUE what to do with them 🙂

      Have an awesome week!
